The Speaker of the Assembly of Kosovo, Albulena Haxhiu, hosted a delegation from the NATO Parliamentary Assembly on Wednesday, led by Vice President Alberto Losacco and Political Committee Chair Sverre Myrli. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Speaker Ardian Gola and members of the Kosovo delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, Shqipe Mehmeti-Selimi and Besa Kabashi-Ramaj. According to an official statement from the Assembly, the discussions focused on strengthening parliamentary cooperation, advancing Kosovo’s Euro-Atlantic integration, and addressing political and security developments in Kosovo, the region, and Europe. During the meeting, Haxhiu emphasized the historical significance of NATO’s 1999 intervention, describing it as a decisive action that ended the war and ethnic cleansing conducted by the Serbian regime. She expressed gratitude for the Alliance’s ongoing support and stated that Kosovo is prepared to take on greater responsibilities regarding shared peace and security. The participants addressed the current security situation in Kosovo, specifically referencing the armed attack in Banjska and the necessity of holding those responsible accountable. The conversation also covered broader European security concerns, particularly the Russian aggression against Ukraine, with Haxhiu reaffirming Kosovo’s support for the Ukrainian people. The delegation and the Assembly representatives discussed the challenges posed by disinformation and hybrid threats, highlighting the need for cooperation to protect democratic institutions and regional stability. Furthermore, the parties explored opportunities to deepen parliamentary ties through regular committee contacts, the exchange of expertise, and the strengthening of parliamentary oversight in the defense sector. Discussions also touched upon the security of critical infrastructure and the importance of internal reforms in the Euro-Atlantic integration process. Kosovo has held the status of an associate member in the NATO Parliamentary Assembly since 2024. Haxhiu reiterated the country’s commitment to advancing toward the Partnership for Peace program and eventual NATO membership, noting the importance of support from allied nations in achieving these goals.
