Prospective Resident Visits Tuen Mun Baotian Estate, Praises Transport and Greenery, Raises Night‑time Safety Concerns Hong Kong, 28 October 2026 – A prospective public‑housing resident who has been allocated a unit at Tuen Mun Baotian Estate visited the site before taking possession. The resident posted on the “Public Housing Discussion Forum” at 10:50 HKT, expressing satisfaction with the estate’s transport links and landscaping while voicing concerns about safety after dark. The resident noted that the estate is within a five‑minute walk of the main bus terminus and the Light Rail Tin King station, describing the connectivity as “extremely convenient.” He also observed a nearby laundry shop, which he said would reduce the need to install a washing machine in his small unit. The most striking feature for him was the estate’s “Tree Appreciation Path” (賞樹徑), which he said “conquered” him and left a “very good impression.” Despite the positive remarks, the resident said he would try to return home before 9 p.m. each night because of “concerns about safety after dark.” He added that he would avoid staying out late. Resident Reactions The post prompted comments from current and former residents of Baotian Estate. Many defended the estate’s living environment, noting that the transport network is extensive, with bus routes to Mong Kok, Tsim Sha Tsui, the airport, and the over‑sea route, as well as a dedicated minibus to Hung Hom. They also pointed out that a pedestrian footbridge leads to a variety of food stalls and shopping malls. One resident, who has lived in Tuen Mun for many years, said he had never experienced any safety problems at night and that “people who feel afraid are usually from outside the area.” Another commenter questioned the practicality of the 9 p.m. return target, noting that most workers finish later than that time. Estate Background Baotian Estate was originally a transit housing complex and is now over 20 years old. Some residents highlighted that the facilities are older and that the bathroom spaces in the units are relatively small. The resident’s comments and the subsequent discussion illustrate the mixed perceptions of the estate’s suitability for new occupants. The estate’s management has not yet issued a statement in response to the post.
