Main Points
Anthony Edwards, guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves, is expected to miss at least two months of the NBA season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right knee. The information was reported by ESPN and The Athletic on Tuesday. Edwards first reported knee discomfort during the Sunday game against the Toronto Raptors. Despite the injury, he played the following Monday against the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he was listed as questionable before the game. In that contest, Edwards scored 47 points, the highest of his career, and helped the Timberwolves secure a win. Over his first four games of the season, he averaged 33.3 points per contest, and the team’s record stood at 3‑1. The Timberwolves have not released official details about the procedure or the exact recovery timeline. Edwards, 25, had previously dealt with knee problems in both legs during the 2023‑24 season, prompting him to prioritize rest over the summer to recover. Edwards’ absence is a significant blow to Minnesota, as he is the team’s primary offensive catalyst. The club will need to find ways to maintain competitiveness while he is sidelined. The start of the season has seen several other franchises confront key injuries, underscoring the broader impact of player health on team performance.
