Samoa lose Amber Hall as England decider offers historic World Cup semi-final chance

Samoa will be without Amber Hall for their decisive Women’s Rugby League World Cup match against England on Friday, with a first semi-final appearance at stake, Dave.Sport reports.

Jaydika Tafua replaces Hall on the interchange bench in Samoa’s only change to their 17. Hall’s absence follows a player-of-the-match performance in the 76-0 victory over Wales, when she scored a try, broke nine tackles and ran for 108 metres. The report does not specify why she has been ruled out.

That victory revived Samoa’s campaign after a 40-0 opening defeat by Australia. Samoa and England now have one win apiece, with the winner of their final group match in Wollongong advancing to the semi-finals.

England also have a significant absence. Eva Hunter, the 2025 Woman of Steel, misses the match after suffering an ankle injury in Saturday’s defeat by Australia.

Georgia Roche returns at halfback alongside Isabel Rowe, while Jenna Foubister moves to 18th player after starting against Australia. England captain Jodie Cunningham is named on the interchange bench following an ear injury.

Hunter’s absence brings changes to England’s forwards. Hollie-Mae Dodd moves from prop to the second row alongside Lucy Murray, with Mary Coleman entering the front row. Georgia Wilson replaces Molly Jones at centre, and Hope Millard joins Cunningham, Vicky Whitfield and Lucie Sams on the bench.

England reached the deciding fixture through a 70-6 victory over Wales followed by a 78-0 defeat by Australia. Coach Stuart Barrow described the next stage as “elimination football”, according to comments attributed to Sky Sports in the Dave.Sport report.

The match is scheduled for Friday, October 30, at WIN Stadium in Wollongong. For Samoa, the task is straightforward: beat England to reach the women’s World Cup semi-finals for the first time. They must do so without one of the standout performers from the win that brought them to this opportunity.
