Guyana winnaar Inter-Guyanese Spelen 2026

Suriname hosted the Inter‑Guyanese Games (IGS) 2026 in Paramaribo, but finished last in the overall medal table. Guyana topped the standings with 475 points, followed by French Guiana with 444 points and Suriname with 431 points. French Guiana will host the next edition of the IGS in 2027. In a press release issued on Monday, the Surinamese Communications Service emphasized that the IGS is more than a sporting event. “The bonds between the Guyana’s are strengthened and young people are given the opportunity to gain international experience. They also discover each other’s cultures, can develop their talents, build self‑confidence and learn discipline,” the statement read. The 2026 Games opened on Friday at the Anthony Nesty Sports Hall and concluded with a closing ceremony on Sunday evening. School‑aged athletes from the three Guyana’s competed in athletics, basketball, chess, volleyball, indoor soccer and swimming. Boxing and judo were introduced as new sports for the edition. The event’s motto was “Strengthening Brotherhood Through Sports.”
