The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 auction is scheduled for 16 December 2027. The event will be held in Goa, coinciding with the second India‑Sri Lanka One‑Day International (ODI) that will take place 500 km away from the auction venue. The auction will be a “mini‑auction” format. Player retention and trade window Franchises must submit their player‑retention lists by 15 November. After the deadline, the IPL authority will send each franchise a list of registered players. Franchises will then create a shortlist of preferred players. A week before the auction, the final list and the order of player sets will be released. Since the end of the 2026 season, only two player trades have taken place. Under IPL rules, the trade window opens one month after a season ends, remains open until a week before the auction, and then reopens a month before the next season. 2027 season schedule The start date for the 2027 IPL has not yet been finalized. When the BCCI announced the schedules for the next three seasons in 2024, it set a window of 14 March to 30 May for the 2027 tournament. At the BCCI AGM in September, Secretary‑General Debjit Saikia suggested the tournament could begin at the end of March. The 2027 auction will be the last mini‑auction before a mega‑auction is planned for the 2028 season, which will also launch the next media‑rights cycle. The BCCI has not yet released the tender for the media rights. Media‑rights sale In 2022, the IPL sold its media rights for US$6.2 billion, equivalent to approximately ₹768.25 billion. The sale positioned the IPL among the world’s premier sporting competitions. India‑Sri Lanka series India and Sri Lanka will contest both an ODI and a T20 series in December 2027. The ODI series will begin on 13 December in Delhi, with the second match on 16 December at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and the third on 19 December in Ahmedabad. The T20 series will be played at three venues: 22 December in Rajkot, 24 December in Kolkata, and 27 December in Pune. Article source: Ajker Patrika | Image credit: Ajker Patrika
