Internal Tensions Within PRM-NY Over David Collado’s Political Standing Recent remarks by Consul Jesús “Chú” Vásquez regarding David Collado have sparked significant debate among members of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) in New York. During an appearance on the radio program El Sol de la Mañana, Vásquez stated that Collado is a “figure” within the PRM rather than a traditional party leader, questioning his history of political work and responsibilities within the organization. In a survey of 19 prominent PRM leaders in New York, 11 (57.89%) expressed agreement with Vásquez’s assessment, while five (26.32%) disagreed, and three (15.79%) declined to comment. Critics within the party allege that Collado has never attended meetings of the Executive Directorate, the party’s highest governing body, nor has he engaged with the party’s grassroots base. ### PRM-NY Implements Collegiate Commission to Resolve Internal Conflicts Following the conclusion of the XXIV Orlando Jorge Mera National Convention, the PRM’s New York branch remains the only one of 39 international sections yet to be sworn in due to ongoing internal disputes. To address this, the National Internal Elections Commission (CNEI), led by Deligne Ascención, has established a collegiate commission to oversee the branch’s operations. The commission, which includes branch leaders Julio César Mateo and John Sánchez, is tasked with managing political and administrative duties through consensus. New mandates require that all political work—including voter registration and the promotion of President Luis Abinader’s administration—be approved by the full commission. Individual or group actions outside of this consensus are prohibited, and the commission will also oversee employment recommendations and pension applications for party members. ### JCE Adjusts Services for the Diaspora and Launches Civic Program The Central Electoral Board (JCE) announced that, effective November 2, it will eliminate the requirement for prior appointments for ID card (cédula) renewals at several international offices, including locations in Canada, Italy, the Netherlands, and various U.S. cities. Other locations, including New York, New Jersey, and Madrid, will adopt a hybrid model, serving both those with and without appointments. Additionally, the JCE has launched the educational program “Mi identidad y nuestra democracia” to encourage civic participation among first-time voters in the Dominican Republic, aiming to address high abstention rates. Regarding funding, while some observers have expressed concern over the JCE’s budget, Minister of the Presidency José Ignacio Paliza stated that the government will provide the necessary resources to ensure the institution meets its obligations. ### Dominican Candidate Seeks Re-election to NY Supreme Court Early voting in New York is currently underway, with general elections scheduled for November 3. Manuel J. Méndez, a Dominican-American currently serving in the Appellate Division of the First Department, is seeking re-election to the New York Supreme Court. Méndez, the only Hispanic candidate on the Manhattan ballot for this position, emphasizes the importance of judicial diversity, noting that a judge’s cultural background and life experience are essential for understanding the context of the cases before them. ### Community Recognition and Services Community Recognition: Manuel Octavio Pérez, known as “Mañengo,” has been recognized for his decades of service to the Dominican community in New York. His work includes humanitarian aid efforts through the Club Amigos de Cristo Rey and his involvement with the Dominican Announcers Circle (CLD) and the Universal Church USA. Pharmaceutical Assistance: New York residents aged 65 and older may qualify for the Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage (EPIC) program, which helps reduce medication costs in conjunction with Medicare Part D.
