Police in Ishwardiganj Upazila of Mymensingh district arrested two individuals, including a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader, in connection with the kidnapping of a banned student league leader. The kidnapped leader, Riyazul Alam Shahin, 30, was taken from police custody. The arrested persons are Nur Mohammad Milon, 50, joint general secretary of the 1st unit of the BNP in Sirisha Union, and Nayan Mondol, 28, former joint general secretary of the banned student league in the same union. The suspects were taken to court on Sunday afternoon, where the judge ordered them to be sent to jail. Their arrest followed a special operation carried out by police in various areas of the upazila on Saturday night. The case alleges that the suspects obstructed police duties, attacked and assaulted police officers, and vandalised a CNG‑powered auto rickshaw used by the police. OIC Sazzad Romon of Ishwardiganj police said the suspects were handed over in accordance with legal procedure and that no leniency would be given to any offender, regardless of party affiliation.
