Ana García Reyes recibe Premio Simón Bolívar por su trayectoria en la educación superior de Nueva York

Ana García Reyes, dean of Hostos Community College, was honored with the Premio Simón Bolívar for her contributions to higher education in New York. The award was presented by the Association of Latino Alumni of City College of the City University of New York (CUNY) during a ceremony held at City College in the midst of Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations. The Premio Simón Bolívar is awarded by the alumni association to individuals who have made significant impacts in education, leadership, and community engagement. In her acceptance, García Reyes thanked Sergio Villaverde, president of the association, and Ana del Carmen García, vice‑president, for recognizing her professional achievements. She also reflected on her own academic ties to City College, noting that the institution provided her with essential knowledge and skills for her career. The event featured a speech by Natalie Gómez‑Vélez, dean of the CUNY School of Law, who discussed challenges facing the U.S. judicial system. García Reyes praised Gómez‑Vélez’s remarks, noting that they added a valuable perspective on justice to the proceedings. The award, named after the 19th‑century liberator Simón Bolívar, highlights the role of Latino professionals in New York’s higher‑education landscape. García Reyes’s recognition follows a series of honors she has received for her work in academia and her service to the New York community.
