Kees recalls Push Back disappearing from radio after two weeks despite early momentum

Kees has recalled an early-career episode in which Push Back began receiving radio play before suddenly disappearing from rotation after about two weeks.

He said that while performing with Image, the group had struggled to secure airplay and later became aware of claims that Image had fallen out with influential figures within the industry.

When Push Back was released, Kees said he distributed the song under the name “Kes” rather than prominently identifying it with Image.

According to Kees, the track began receiving airplay and appeared to be gaining momentum before the plays abruptly stopped.

He said Maximus Dan later approached him at an event and told him the song had been “thrown in the bin” during what Kees described as radio programming sessions where decisions were made about which songs would continue receiving airplay.

Kees presented the account as part of the difficulties he experienced trying to establish himself in soca during the early stages of his career.
