German General Carsten Breuer has been selected as the next chairman of the NATO Military Committee. Breuer, who currently serves as the highest-ranking military official in the German armed forces, is set to succeed the current chairman, Giuseppe Cavo Dragone.
Cavo Dragone announced the appointment on the social media platform X, confirming that Breuer will assume the role in July of next year. The NATO Military Committee is the alliance’s senior military body, providing strategic advice to the North Atlantic Council.
The position has previously been held by notable figures, including current Czech President Petr Pavel, who served as chairman of the committee from 2015 to 2018.
