[Vidéo] Déguembéré : ces vies suspendues au fleuve Sénégal

The village of Deguembere, located in the Podor department of Senegal, maintains a precarious existence defined by its proximity to the Senegal River. Situated only a few kilometers from the border with Mauritania, the community relies heavily on the waterway for its daily survival.

For the residents of Deguembere, the river serves as a vital resource that facilitates both local agriculture and fishing. While the waterway provides essential sustenance and connectivity for the population, it also presents significant environmental risks. Local inhabitants have developed strategies to adapt to the river’s seasonal fluctuations, balancing its economic benefits against the potential for destructive flooding.

Reporting on the village’s relationship with the river was conducted by Moustapha Djamil Thiam.
