The Salemba Class IIA Correctional Facility in Jakarta conducted a surprise inspection and random drug testing of inmates and staff on Friday, September 18. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections for Jakarta, the North Jakarta National Narcotics Agency, the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the National Police, and the Mobile Brigade Corps.
Amico Balalembang, head of the Salemba Class IIA Correctional Facility, stated that the initiative was part of a commitment to strengthen early detection of security threats and prevent the presence of mobile phones, illegal levies, and narcotics within the facility. During the inspection of residential cells, officers confiscated several prohibited items, including five iron spoons, five plastic spoons, three razors, and five perfume bottles. No narcotics were discovered during the search.
In addition to the cell inspections, random urine tests were administered to 32 inmates and 30 correctional officers. According to officials, all participants tested negative for narcotics. Balalembang noted that the facility intends to continue conducting periodic inspections and drug screenings in collaboration with external agencies to maintain a secure environment while adhering to professional and humanitarian standards.
