Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Al Said of Oman arrived in Luanda on Thursday for a 48-hour state visit to Angola. The visit, conducted at the invitation of President João Lourenço, is intended to strengthen economic cooperation between the two nations.
Upon his arrival, the Sultan was received by Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs Téte António. The official program is scheduled to continue on Friday with a formal welcoming ceremony and a bilateral meeting with President Lourenço. Following discussions between the Angolan and Omani delegations, the two leaders are expected to deliver speeches and oversee the exchange of formal agreements at the Treaties Hall. President Lourenço will also host an official luncheon in honor of the Sultan.
The visit aims to build upon diplomatic relations established on December 13, 2005. Both countries are seeking to expand cooperation across several sectors, including mining, energy, technology, tourism, agriculture, food security, transport, logistics, and ports.
This diplomatic engagement follows a visit by President Lourenço to Oman in December 2024, where the two leaders identified new investment opportunities. Previous cooperation agreements included Omani involvement in the Catoca and Luele diamond operations, as well as memoranda of understanding regarding energy and strategic financial initiatives. This trip marks the first state visit by a Sultan of Oman to Angola.
