S.L. Raheja Hospital in Mahim, Mumbai, a Fortis Associate, has officially launched a new Department of Women and Child Care. The facility aims to provide integrated healthcare services for women and children, covering various stages of life from adolescence and reproductive health to infancy and childhood development.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by hospital trustees Neel Raheja and Akshay Raheja, along with Dr. S. Narayani, Regional Director of Operations for Fortis Hospitals; Dr. Kunal Punamiya, CEO of S.L. Raheja Hospital; and Lt Gen (Dr) V Ravishankar (VSM-Retd.), Medical Advisor to the Board of Trustees.
The new department offers obstetric care, including antenatal check-ups, high-risk pregnancy management, and postpartum support. Gynaecological services provided include treatment for menstrual disorders, PCOS, fibroids, and endometriosis, as well as cancer screening and menopause care. The department is equipped for minimally invasive surgical procedures, such as laparoscopy and hysteroscopy.
For pediatric and neonatal care, the department features a dedicated team of specialists and a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) designed to manage critical cases. Services range from routine immunizations and growth monitoring to the management of complex pediatric conditions. The department is supported by a multidisciplinary team of specialists in fields including cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, hemato-oncology, nephrology, pulmonology, clinical genetics, orthopedics, and neurodevelopmental pediatrics.
Dr. Kunal Punamiya stated that the department was established to provide a continuum of care for families, allowing them to access specialized services for both women and children within a single institution. Lt Gen (Dr) V Ravishankar noted that the initiative is intended to support women through various life stages while ensuring children receive timely, specialized medical attention.
