Hundreds of opposition supporters gathered in Caracas to demand the return of Venezuelan opposition leader MarÃa Corina Machado, whose team says she has repeatedly been prevented from travelling back to Venezuela.
Demonstrators marched through the Venezuelan capital carrying national flags and signs calling for Machado’s return. Protesters also called for presidential elections to be held in 2027.
Machado’s team says she attempted three times this week to travel from Panama to Venezuela but was unable to complete the journey.
According to her representatives, a private flight scheduled to carry Machado from Panama did not take off after Bonaire, Aruba and Curaçao did not grant landing permission along the proposed route.
Her team says Machado has now made at least seven attempts to return to Venezuela since leaving the country in December 2025.
Machado remains outside Venezuela as her supporters continue calling for her safe return and the ability to participate freely in the country’s political process.
