A video circulating online has raised safety concerns after a group of schoolchildren were seen running onto a busy roadway during breaks in traffic, sitting on the road and apparently taking photographs or selfies before moving away as vehicles approached.
The footage shows the children gathered at the side of the roadway while vehicles pass.
When a gap develops in the traffic, several of them run into the road. Some can then be seen sitting or positioning themselves on the roadway while others appear to use mobile phones to capture photographs or video.
They subsequently move from the roadway as traffic resumes.
The behaviour appears to be some form of game, challenge or activity among the students. However, the video alone does not establish what they called the activity, whether it was associated with a particular social-media trend or how frequently they had been doing it.
The footage highlights the potentially serious consequences of entering an active roadway for photographs or entertainment. Even when traffic appears to have stopped or cleared, approaching vehicles may leave pedestrians with little time to move to safety.
