A disabled woman is making a public appeal for grocery assistance, saying her $2,000 monthly disability income is cut in half by $1,000 rent for a very small apartment.
In a video message, Alicia Hypolite said she is married but her husband cannot go to work because he must take care of her at home, including helping her when she needs to use the bathroom. She said there is no one else he trusts to care for her.
Hypolite said that after paying rent, the remaining money goes toward medication and other necessities, leaving little for food. She described the apartment as very small and said she cannot reach the bathroom on her own, which she said makes her feel frustrated and claustrophobic. She also said she gets mosquito bites every night.
“I ask for help for groceries,” Hypolite said in the video. “Anybody who could help me… please contact me.” She asked for groceries, money, or other donations and said her contact number is on her videos.
Hypolite thanked those who have supported her, saying she deeply appreciates the help. She specifically acknowledged her husband and her friend Angela, saying she wants to big them up.
