Non-oil economy in shambles; too much reliance on oil for economic growth- APNU

The opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) has criticized the government’s economic management, characterizing the non-oil sector as being in a state of decline. The party expressed concerns regarding an over-reliance on the oil industry to drive national economic growth.

In a statement issued on Friday, September 18, 2026, the APNU called on the government to provide greater transparency regarding its economic growth projections for the remainder of the year. The opposition party pointed to the Ministry of Finance’s recently published mid-year economic report as the basis for its assessment.

According to the APNU, the downward revisions noted in the government’s mid-year report warrant further explanation. The party argued that the current economic trajectory highlights a problematic dependency on oil revenues, which it claims has left other sectors of the economy struggling.
