YEREVAN — On September 11 and 12, Azerbaijani authorities hosted a diplomatic tour of the region of Artsakh. The event coincided with the fourth anniversary of the 2022 Azerbaijani military offensive against Armenian sovereign territory.
According to reports, the tour included approximately 150 representatives from 58 countries and nine international organizations. The visit took place in a region from which the vast majority of the ethnic Armenian population departed in September 2023 following a military operation by Azerbaijan.
The Armenian Weekly reported that the diplomatic visit was characterized by critics as an attempt to legitimize the current status of the territory. The publication further noted that the event occurred amid ongoing concerns regarding the preservation of cultural heritage in the region and the domestic political climate within Azerbaijan.
