Psykologiprofessorn: ”Alla människor får smutsiga tankar”

Finnish psychologist professor Erik Andersson has stated that everyone experiences intrusive or “dirty” thoughts as part of normal human cognition. According to Andersson, the human mind generates roughly 65,000 thoughts each day, many of which are ordinary, while others can be uncomfortable or forbidden.

In an interview, Andersson explained that the danger lies not in the thoughts themselves but in the tendency to identify with them. “It becomes hazardous when you start to believe that you are your thoughts,” he said.

He also highlighted that even thoughts about harming a child or a partner are not uncommon, but recognizing them as mere mental events rather than personal identity is crucial for mental well‑being.

Andersson’s remarks were reported by HBL Finland.
