Tribunal de Ética Médica rechaza investigar a Lustemberg por el caso Barrera

The Medical Ethics Tribunal of the Medical College of Uruguay has decided not to proceed with an investigation into the Minister of Public Health, Cristina Lustemberg, regarding her involvement in the case of pediatrician Soledad Barrera.

The tribunal reached this decision by a majority vote on Friday. The complaint against the minister stemmed from her actions related to the case of Dr. Barrera, who died in 2024 following complications from a routine surgical procedure described as medical malpractice.

The Medical College of Uruguay has not released further details regarding the specific reasoning behind the tribunal’s decision to reject the complaint.
