US Open 2026: Alexander Zverev cruises past Van de Zandschulp to reach third semifinal

Alexander Zverev defeated Botic van de Zandschulp 6‑2, 7‑5, 6‑1 on Wednesday to reach the semifinals of the 2026 US Open, marking the third time in his career to advance to the last four of a Grand Slam.

The German top seed won the match in just over two hours, using a combination of powerful groundstrokes and precise serve placement. In the second set, van de Zandschulp earned a break point at 3‑2, but Zverev survived a 33‑shot rally to deny the opportunity. Van de Zandschulp later had a set point on Zverev’s serve at 5‑4, but a forehand error ended the rally and allowed Zverev to break and close the set 7‑5. The third set was largely one‑way traffic, with Zverev winning 6‑1.

After the victory, Zverev’s season totals were 51 match wins on the ATP Tour and 23 Grand Slam match victories, the most by a German male player in a single season and the highest for any player in the Open Era at that point.

According to the ATP, Zverev became only the ninth different male player in the Open Era to reach the semifinals at all four Grand Slam tournaments in a single season.
