Former Portsmouth captain Darren Moore has been appointed as the head coach of the England Under-20s team. The 52-year-old will oversee the squad for the 2026-27 season, with his first fixtures scheduled against Italy, France, and Germany.
Moore, whose most recent managerial position was at Port Vale until his departure in December 2025, previously managed West Bromwich Albion, Sheffield Wednesday, and Doncaster Rovers. Regarding his new role, Moore stated that he takes great pride in representing his country and is eager to work with elite young talent to support their individual and collective development.
During his playing career, which spanned over 600 appearances, Moore spent time at Portsmouth after being signed from Bradford City for 650,000 pounds in November 1999. Under the management of Tony Pulis, who succeeded Alan Ball at Fratton Park, Moore served as team captain. He made 66 appearances and scored two goals for the club before moving to West Bromwich Albion for 750,000 pounds in September 2001.
Following his time at West Brom, where he achieved promotion to the Premier League, Moore played for Derby County, Barnsley, and Burton Albion. He retired from professional football in February 2012.
