Four secondary school students were suspended for seven days after a fight outside a primary school in Sangre Grande on Monday afternoon. The altercation happened just after the new academic term opened and was captured on video before it spread across social media.
Police confirmed the students faced disciplinary action, with a notice from the secondary school’s principal directing them to the Sangre Grande Suspension Centre. The centre will keep the students away from regular classes during the suspension period.
While at the centre, the boys will participate in the Youth Development Programme operated through the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service Community Policing Unit. The programme is designed to provide structured intervention and guidance for young offenders.
Police Community Officer PC Felix Persad will supervise the students throughout the seven‑day period, ensuring they engage with the programme activities and receive appropriate support.
Parents or representatives were also summoned to the school after the incident. The disciplinary action highlights the challenges schools face as they resume classes after holidays and underscores the importance of early intervention in student conduct.
