**Over 440 Farming Families Receive Food Assistance in Nueva Concepción**
**CHALATENANGO, El Salvador** – The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) announced the distribution of food baskets to more than 440 farming families in the Laguna Seca canton of the Nueva Concepción district.
The initiative aims to provide immediate support to rural communities impacted by adverse weather conditions during the 2026 agricultural cycle. The distribution reached residents across several localities, including Los Colorados, Torerona, El Paterno, El Sauce, La Cebadilla, Zamoras, Las Tablas, El Chagüite, and Sitio Las Flores.
Each food package contains essential items, including beans, rice, cooking oil, corn flour, sugar, coffee, sardines, milk, oats, plantains, green peppers, onions, tomatoes, and eggs.
Local farmers expressed that the assistance is necessary due to the impact of a prolonged dry spell (canícula) on their corn and bean crops. Julio Garay, a local farmer, stated that the aid provides essential support for his family’s sustenance. Similarly, farmers Felícita Gutiérrez and Cecilia de Cisneros noted that the government support serves as a significant economic relief.
The Ministry stated that this distribution is part of a broader government effort to assist subsistence farmers affected by crop losses. In addition to food aid, the government reports it is implementing measures to support the agricultural sector amid challenges posed by the El Niño phenomenon. These measures include the distribution of agricultural inputs, the sale of maintenance feed at preferential prices in the eastern and paracentral regions, price monitoring of the basic food basket, technical assistance for producers, and the establishment of auxiliary irrigation systems.
