A coalition of political parties and civil society organizations in Togo has issued statements of support for investigative journalist Ferdinand Ayité and other activists currently living in exile.
Ayité, the director of the newspaper *L’Alternative*, has repeatedly alleged that the Togolese government is planning to target him physically. These claims follow what he describes as the failure of diplomatic efforts by the Togolese authorities to secure his extradition.
On September 1, Ayité addressed these concerns during a live broadcast, reiterating his fears regarding his safety.
The support from these political and civil society groups comes amid ongoing tensions regarding the treatment of journalists and activists who have left the country. Supporters of the activists have called for the protection of freedom of expression and the safety of those critical of the current administration.
