**International “Armeno-Georgica” Congress to Become Recurring Event**
**YEREVAN** — The international congress “Armeno-Georgica: History and Culture from Antiquity to Modern Period” commenced in Yerevan on September 2, with organizers announcing plans to establish the event as a recurring academic fixture.
The congress, which focuses on the historical and cultural ties between Armenia and Georgia, is organized by the Geghard Scientific-Analytical Foundation in collaboration with Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The initiative received support from Armenia’s Higher Education and Science Committee.
Gor Margaryan, a historian and analyst at the Geghard Foundation, stated that the event aims to contribute to the fields of Armenology, Georgian studies, and Caucasus studies, while fostering mutual understanding between the two societies. According to Margaryan, the congress will be held periodically, alternating between Yerevan and Tbilisi, and will feature both academic presentations and roundtable discussions.
Armenia’s Ambassador to Georgia, Ashot Smbatyan, addressed the importance of the initiative, noting that the study of Armenian-Georgian relations requires ongoing academic rigor.
“It is welcome that this initiative will strive to become an important platform, bringing together scholars from Yerevan and Tbilisi,” Smbatyan said. “It is impossible to fully understand many pages of our peoples’ history by considering them separately.”
Historian Anush Harutyunyan emphasized the necessity of re-evaluating historical narratives, stating that the discovery and reformulation of the past are essential components in the development of relations between states and societies.
In addition to Armenian and Georgian scholars, the congress includes participants from Poland, the Russian Federation, Ukraine, and Bulgaria. The event is scheduled to conclude on September 4.
