**Sri Lankan Prime Minister Attends Food‑Systems Summit in Bhutan**

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister, Dr. Harini Amarasuriya, left Colombo on Monday, 31 August, on an official visit to the Kingdom of Bhutan to take part in the Global Conscious Food Systems Summit. The summit, which is being hosted in Bhutan, convenes policymakers, experts and stakeholders to discuss sustainable and resilient food systems worldwide.

On 1 September, Dr. Amarasuriya participated in the opening plenary session of the summit. In her remarks, she highlighted Sri Lanka’s ongoing efforts to strengthen food security and promote environmentally responsible agricultural practices. The Prime Minister’s participation underscores the island nation’s commitment to engaging with regional and global initiatives aimed at improving food system governance.

The Global Conscious Food Systems Summit runs through the first week of September, featuring a series of panels and workshops on topics such as climate‑smart agriculture, nutrition, and supply‑chain resilience. Representatives from several countries are expected to attend, fostering dialogue on collaborative solutions to shared challenges in the sector.

Sri Lanka’s delegation, led by the Prime Minister, will continue its engagement with Bhutanese officials and summit participants over the course of the visit before returning to Colombo.
