**British Columbia Voters Cast Ballots in First of Three Federal By‑elections**

*Vancouver, B.C., August 31, 2026* — Voters in British Columbia went to the polls on Thursday for the first of three federal by‑elections being held across the country this week.

The British Columbia riding, which has been without representation in the House of Commons since early June, is the focus of today’s vote. The seat became vacant after Liberal MP Jonathan Wilkinson was appointed Canada’s ambassador to the European Union, prompting his resignation from Parliament.

Election officials reported that polling stations opened at the standard time across the province, with voters eligible to cast ballots for candidates representing the major federal parties as well as any registered independents. The by‑election will determine who will fill the vacant seat for the remainder of the current parliamentary term.

The other two by‑elections are scheduled for later this week in separate provinces, though details of those contests were not included in the current report.

No results have been announced yet, and the final count will be released by Elections Canada after the polls close.
