Antigua and Barbuda: Consumer Affairs alerts drivers to major Nissan e-POWER recall

The Prices and Consumer Affairs Division has informed motorists about a significant recall affecting 600,595 Nissan e-POWER vehicles due to a software issue that may lead to a loss of driving power while the vehicle is in motion. This recall was announced by Nissan in Japan and pertains to specific models including the Note, Note Aura, and X-Trail, which were manufactured between November 12, 2020, and April 6, 2026.

The vehicles involved in the recall include:

  • 322,023 Note models from the years 2020 to 2026
  • 183,828 Note Aura models from the years 2021 to 2026
  • 94,744 X-Trail models from the years 2022 to 2026

The specific model codes for the affected vehicles are as follows:

  • Note: 6AA-E13 and 6AA-SNE13
  • Note Aura: 6AA-FE13 and 6AA-FSNE13
  • X-Trail: 6AA-T33 and 6AA-SNT33

These vehicles utilize Nissan’s e-POWER hybrid system, which operates by having a petrol engine generate electricity while an electric motor, powered by a lithium-ion battery, drives the wheels. The system is managed by a battery controller that regulates the flow of energy.

Nissan has indicated that the issue arises from incorrect program logic that may, under certain conditions, incorrectly detect a fault. This could trigger an EV system warning on the instrument panel and reduce the output of the traction motor. In severe cases, this malfunction may result in the power to the drive motor being cut off while the vehicle is moving, potentially leaving it unable to continue driving.

To address this issue, Nissan plans to correct the problem by updating the lithium-ion battery controller with revised software. The recall repair will be conducted at no cost to the vehicle owners.

Consumers who own the affected vehicles are encouraged to reach out to Nissan for assistance regarding the recall. Additionally, they can contact the Prices and Consumer Affairs Division for further information or assistance. The division can be reached by telephone at 462-4347, via email at consumeraffairs@gov.ag, or through its official website at consumeraffairs.gov.ag.

This recall serves as a reminder for vehicle owners to stay informed about potential safety issues related to their vehicles and to take proactive steps to ensure their safety on the road.
