**Botswana Sprinters Compete at Banca Valsabbina Grand Prix in Brescia**
*BRESCIA, Italy – August 28, 2026* – Botswana’s leading track athletes, Letsile Tebogo and Bayapo Ndori, took part in the Banca Valsabbina Grand Prix in Brescia on Sunday, joining a field that included world‑class competitors such as Vernon Norwood of the United States, Kirani James of Grenada, Reece Holder of Australia and Muhammad Kounta of France.
Tebogo, who earned a gold medal in the 100 metres at the 2024 Paris Olympics, entered the 400‑metre race as part of a broader preparation strategy ahead of the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship scheduled for next month. According to his coaching team, the longer distance is intended to develop his speed endurance and improve his performance in his primary sprint events.
Ndori, a specialist in the 400 metres, used the meeting as a benchmark following a period of recovery from injury. Competing against a strong international lineup was described as a “vital diagnostic test” for assessing his rehabilitation progress and race readiness.
In an interview with the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA), sport development manager‑technical Patrick Moesi expressed optimism about the athletes’ participation. Moesi said the presence of elite Botswana athletes on the international stage “has generated significant interest among children nationwide,” and that their performances are “inspiring a new generation to take up track and field.” He added that the momentum created by senior competitors is expected to strengthen the BAA’s development pipeline and contribute to a sustainable depth of talent across regional structures.
The Banca Valsabbina Grand Prix, part of the European athletics circuit, provides athletes with the opportunity to compete against a diverse field ahead of major championships.
