**Governor Lifts Ban on Fireworks and Open Fires in East Flanders**

*East Flanders, Belgium –* Governor Carina Van Cauter announced the removal of the prohibition on fireworks, open‑air fire pits, barbecues, campfires, helium balloons and thermal weed‑control methods in the province of East Flanders.

The decision follows a period of heat waves that have now subsided, accompanied by several days of rain that have reduced the dryness of the region’s forests and natural areas. Weather forecasts indicate that additional rainfall is expected in the short‑ to medium‑term, further lowering the risk of wildfires.

In a statement, Governor Van Cauter said the conditions are now suitable to “once again allow the use of atmospheric fire devices such as fire pits, the organization of fireworks, open fires on vegetated and unpaved ground, the release of wish balloons, and thermal weed‑control techniques.” She noted that the ban, which had been in force since 15 July 2026, was lifted after consultations with the police, municipal authorities and fire‑safety experts.

While the restrictions have been removed, the governor urged residents to continue exercising caution in forested and natural areas. “Do not smoke, do not make fire, and do not leave glass or other waste behind. The fire service, nature managers and the government remain vigilant,” she said.
