**Tanzania Unveils Plans to Supply Natural Gas to Uganda and Kenya via Cross-Border Pipeline**
Tanzania has announced plans to supply natural gas to Uganda and Kenya through a single cross-border pipeline, as part of a regional energy initiative to expand clean energy access and enhance East African cooperation.
The announcement was made by Engineer Charles Sangweni, Director General of the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA), during the Second African Youth in Oil and Gas International Conference in Unguja, Zanzibar.
According to Engineer Sangweni, the project forms part of Tanzania’s broader strategy to increase investment in the oil and gas sector while positioning the country as a primary clean energy supplier to neighboring nations. He stated that the planned pipeline will bolster regional integration, strengthen energy security, and encourage the adoption of natural gas as a sustainable energy alternative.
During his address, Engineer Sangweni also emphasized the importance of youth empowerment in unlocking Africa’s energy potential, describing young people as the current and future workforce necessary for driving economic growth through the responsible development of petroleum resources.
“Greater youth involvement would help build the skills and innovation needed to sustain the industry’s growth while ensuring Africans benefit more from their natural resources,” Engineer Sangweni said.
The conference convened oil and gas stakeholders from across the continent to discuss investment opportunities, clean energy development, and strategies to increase youth participation in the sector.
