**RIYADH** — Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi has issued a strong condemnation regarding repeated hostile attacks attributed to Iran against two ADNOC tankers transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
“These attacks represent a dangerous and unacceptable escalation, as well as a direct threat to the security and safety of maritime navigation and international trade in one of the world’s most vital waterways, in violation of the United Nations (UN) Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and relevant UN Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2817,” Albudaiwi stated on August 16, 2026.
Albudaiwi rejected any attempts by Iran to use the international waterway as a tool for pressure and threats. He called upon the international community to take responsibility, adopt a firm stance to halt the attacks, and guarantee the security and freedom of navigation in line with international law and relevant resolutions.
Concluding his statement, the GCC Secretary General reaffirmed the organization’s full solidarity with the United Arab Emirates, stating support for all measures taken by the UAE to protect its security, sovereignty, property, and interests.
