Claxton Bay Mother Seeks Assistance Amid Health and Housing Struggles
A Claxton Bay mother is appealing to the public for assistance as she struggles with deteriorating eyesight, difficult living conditions and the responsibility of caring for her seven-year-old daughter.
Debbie Joseph says her vision has deteriorated significantly and that she has difficulty seeing properly. She is scheduled to undergo eye screening on August 28 but is hoping she can receive attention sooner.
Joseph said she has repeatedly attempted to access assistance through social welfare but has encountered difficulties. According to her account, she previously sought disability assistance but was informed after a doctor completed her paperwork that she did not qualify. She also described unsuccessful attempts to obtain public assistance.
She said she previously received food-card assistance but claimed that the support was later discontinued following a visit to her home while she was away. Joseph said she has struggled to resolve the situation since then.
Her immediate concern is securing a safer and more suitable home for herself and her young daughter.
“Most of all, I want a proper place to live for me and my daughter,” Joseph said, explaining that she has no one else she can depend on for assistance.
Joseph also described serious concerns about her eyesight, saying she can no longer see through her left eye and is experiencing problems with her right eye. She fears her declining vision could eventually prevent her from adequately caring for her daughter.
She also reported other health concerns and said her financial situation makes travelling for assistance difficult.
Despite her own struggles, Joseph said her greatest concern remains her daughter and appealed to anyone who may be able to assist.
“I want to live to see my daughter reach the age she’s supposed to reach,” she said. “I’m asking anyone out there, if they can help me, please help me.”
