Young Farmers of Réunion Denounce Disruptions at Bois-Rouge Factory
The organization Jeunes Agriculteurs Réunion has expressed its concern over the difficulties faced by farmers at the Bois-Rouge factory since the beginning of the sugar campaign. In a statement released on August 6, the organization described the situation as “untenable” for planters.
According to the Young Farmers, the Bois-Rouge factory has once again reduced its reception capacity for sugarcane and closed several delivery centers. The organization claims that these measures will lead to delays in harvesting, loss of wealth and weight of the sugarcane, and economic consequences for the affected farms.
The Young Farmers pointed out that the previous two campaigns were particularly difficult for many producers, leaving agricultural farms fragile and unable to withstand the repeated dysfunction of the industrial tool.
The organization has called on Tereos to take immediate action to ensure a reliable operation of the factory and put an end to the disruptions that, according to them, threaten the income of planters.
This statement comes hours after a press release from the FDSEA Réunion, which also denounced the difficulties at Bois-Rouge and demanded the urgent convening of a Sugar and Sugarcane Joint Committee (CPCS).
The Young Farmers of Réunion are the latest to join the growing criticism of the disruptions at the Bois-Rouge factory, highlighting the need for a swift resolution to the issues affecting the sugar industry on the island.
