Lebanese MP Michel Daher stated that there can be no reform without accountability and no state without the rule of law.
In a post on the X platform, Daher emphasized that the Value-Added Tax (VAT) paid by consumers does not belong to merchants or industrialists, but rather is collected for the state treasury. He added that when VAT is collected but not declared, it constitutes theft that warrants prosecution and accountability.
Daher noted that he has been following this issue for years, but unfortunately, there has been no serious response from the relevant authorities. He stressed that if the state genuinely wants to halt the financial collapse that is looming on the horizon, it must impose the rule of law and hold accountable those responsible for impoverishing the Lebanese people.
Daher reiterated that reform is impossible without accountability and that a state cannot exist without the rule of law.
