Sudanese Ambassador Meets with AU Commission Chair to Discuss Situation in Sudan

Khartoum – Sudan’s Ambassador to Ethiopia and Permanent Representative to the African Union (AU) and the UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Al-Zain Ibrahim Hussein, met with AU Commission Chair Mahmoud Ali Youssouf on Tuesday. During the meeting, Ambassador Hussein delivered an oral message from Sudan’s Foreign Minister, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salem.

The ambassador briefed Chair Youssouf on the current developments in Sudan, including the recent advances of the Sudanese Armed Forces, the humanitarian situation, and the country’s recovery needs. The discussion also touched on the issue of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs) returning to their homes. Additionally, the meeting addressed regional developments, with Ambassador Hussein warning about the negative impact of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia on regional stability.

The two sides also discussed preparations for the upcoming visit of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) to Khartoum, scheduled to take place in mid-August under Algeria’s chairmanship. Ambassador Hussein reaffirmed Sudan’s readiness to receive the African delegation and facilitate meetings with the country’s leadership, political forces, and civil society representatives.
