Family, friends, fellow soldiers, and members of the Trinidad and Tobago community gathered in Queens, New York, to bid a final farewell to U.S. Army Sgt. Angel Sarah Rampersad. The Trinidad-born soldier was killed during an Iranian missile and drone attack on a U.S. military installation in Jordan.
Rampersad, 28, was laid to rest with full military honors following a funeral service at Calvary Assembly of God in Ozone Park. She was later buried at Long Island National Cemetery. Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Rampersad immigrated to Queens with her family as a child. Known for her kindness and humility, she was deeply committed to serving others.
After graduating from John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Rampersad enlisted in the U.S. Army in 2019, fulfilling a long-held desire to serve her adopted country. She was assigned as a Signal Operations Support Specialist with the 1st Battalion, 57th Air Defense Artillery Regiment, based in Ansbach, Germany.
Rampersad was deployed to Jordan when Iran launched a large-scale attack against Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in July 2026. Initially reported missing, her death was later confirmed, shocking both the military community and the Caribbean diaspora. Tributes poured in from across the United States and Trinidad and Tobago.
Hundreds attended her funeral service, where military personnel carried her flag-draped casket. The ceremony included scripture readings, musical tributes, and emotional remarks from family and fellow soldiers. Military leaders praised her professionalism and dedication.
