Police Recover Firearm and Ammunition in Intelligence-Led Operation in Penal District

In a recent operation led by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, a firearm and ammunition were successfully recovered in the Bunsee Trace, Penal Rock Road area. The operation, which took place on June 27, 2026, was driven by specific intelligence that guided officers to a location near the Mud Volcano.

As officers approached the site, they noticed two men who quickly fled into the nearby forest, evading capture despite extensive searches conducted in the area. The officers then focused their attention on a makeshift camp they found during their search.

A thorough examination of the camp led to the discovery of a shotgun concealed within the roof structure. Additionally, officers found two 12-gauge shotgun cartridges marked ‘SAGA’, cleverly hidden inside a one-litre cranberry juice container among sawdust.

The firearm was safely rendered inert by the police, and, along with the ammunition, was processed and documented by Crime Scene Investigation officers. The items have since been submitted for further forensic examination to aid ongoing investigations.

The operation was conducted under the supervision of Cpl. Seepersad, with efforts continuing to apprehend the suspects. The TTPS remains committed to ensuring public safety and reducing the presence of illegal firearms on the streets.
