AFF Claims 21 Taliban Fighters Killed in Badakhshan Attack

The Afghanistan Freedom Front (AFF) announced on Friday that its fighters killed at least 21 Taliban members, including several commanders, during an operation in the Zebak district of Badakhshan province. The attack, which began on Thursday morning, July 23, involved coordinated assaults from multiple directions, according to an AFF statement. The group also reported that 37 Taliban fighters were wounded in the clashes.

The AFF is one of several resistance groups operating against Taliban rule since the group seized power in 2021. Badakhshan, a mountainous region in northeastern Afghanistan, has seen sporadic fighting between Taliban forces and opposition fighters. The latest operation underscores ongoing instability in the area, despite the Taliban’s claims of nationwide control.

Neither the Taliban nor independent sources have confirmed the casualty figures provided by the AFF. The claims could not be independently verified, but they highlight the persistent threat to Taliban authority in parts of the country.
