China’s Tech Rise Opens Digital Transformation Doors for Developing Nations: Expert

An Egyptian expert has said that China’s rapid rise in science and technology is offering developing economies new opportunities to advance digital transformation and accelerate sustainable development. Abdel-Wahab Ghoneim, vice chairman of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy, told Xinhua that China has become an important pole of global innovation, particularly in smart technology and artificial intelligence. Ghoneim attributed China’s technological progress to three key factors: linking scientific research to industry, expanding advanced technologies like AI and chips, and having a state system that supports research, manufacturing, and investment. He noted that these moves, combined with updates in technological education and legislation, offer practical lessons for developing countries including Egypt. Ghoneim also highlighted China’s EV sector as a model for cooperation, especially given Egypt’s abundant reserves of critical raw materials. He pointed to existing projects such as the Government Data and Cloud Computing Center and Huawei’s 5G collaboration in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital as signs of Egyptian confidence in Chinese technology. At the recent 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference, China pledged 5,000 AI training opportunities for developing countries, further solidifying its role as a partner in technological development.
