The Congolese government has adopted new statutes for the National Centre for Forest Inventory and Management of Forest and Wildlife Resources (CNIARFF), marking a step forward in the country’s forest governance. The decree was presented by Minister of Forest Economy Rosalie Matondo and approved during a cabinet meeting.
The CNIARFF was created by law on September 15, 2023, as an administrative public establishment with legal personality and financial autonomy. Its primary mission is to conduct national inventories of forest, wildlife, and biodiversity resources in collaboration with relevant administrations.
In addition to inventory work, the Centre will collect, process, store, and update data on forests, wildlife, and protected areas. It is also responsible for developing and updating national forest mapping and management plans for the national forest estate.
The adopted statutes outline the organization, duties, and functioning of the Centre’s administrative and management bodies, in line with the December 2024 law on the general regime of public establishments. This formalization aims to strengthen the institutional framework for sustainable forest management in Congo.
