Botswana Unified Revenue Service (BURS) Commissioner General Phodiso Valashia has moved to allay fears over the country’s newly implemented tax reforms, insisting they are not intended to increase the tax burden on citizens and businesses.
Speaking to the media after the new tax laws took effect, Valashia described the reforms as the most significant overhaul of Botswana’s tax system in years. He explained that the changes are designed to establish a modern, fair, and transparent revenue system capable of sustaining the nation’s long-term economic growth.
Valashia reassured taxpayers that the reforms aim to improve efficiency and equity rather than squeeze more money out of them. The comments come amid public concern and speculation over the impact of the new regime.
