President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has broken his silence on the case surrounding former PSP national director Luís Neves—though only to say he will remain silent for now.
In a statement delivered by his spokesman, António José Seguro, the President said he is ‘very attentive’ to national affairs and follows everything closely, but he will only speak at ‘the right time and the right place.’
The remark comes amid growing public and media interest in Luís Neves, a figure with a long and controversial career in Portuguese security services. Neves has been linked to several sensitive investigations, making the President’s cautious response noteworthy.
Political observers see this as a deliberate signal that the President is monitoring the situation but is unwilling to be drawn into premature commentary that could inflame political tensions.
