Authorities in Italy’s Dolomites are sending police and rangers to patrol tourist hotspots from July, following viral videos of long queues and complaints about visitor behavior. Last Sunday, hundreds waited over an hour for a shuttle at Tre Cime di Lavaredo, reigniting overtourism debates. Incidents include hikers in flip-flops, loud campers, and littering. In Cortina d’Ampezzo, police will patrol hiking trails through September to enforce bans on wild camping and river bathing. South Tyrol will post 15 rangers at spots like Lake Braies and Seceda, relying on education rather than enforcement. The region also restricted private vehicle access in Braies Valley and Plätzwiese, and banned motorsports above 1,600 meters. Critics blame social media for the influx. ‘It’s about managing tourism intelligently,’ said Cortina councillor Stefano Ghezze.
