Madhya Pradesh’s ‘Namo Harit-Nagar Yojana’ goes beyond tree planting by integrating water conservation. The scheme mandates rainwater harvesting, protection of existing mature trees, and planting along water bodies.
Native plant species will be selected based on local climate and soil conditions to ensure survival and minimal water use. A scientific approach to urban greening aims to make cities more resilient to heat and water stress.
Commissioner Sanket Bhondwe emphasized that these measures are critical for long-term sustainability of the urban forests.
