In a tragic event that unfolded on Sunday afternoon, a six-year-old boy lost his life at a popular swimming spot in East Bank Berbice, Guyana. Kayden Busey, a Grade One pupil of All Saints Primary School, was out with a group of children at a location known as “Sixth Bridge” in Edinburgh. With the children having ventured to the area unbeknownst to their parents, disaster struck while they were making TikTok videos near the water.
According to accounts from his family, Kayden entered the water after perceiving that another child was in distress. His eight-year-old brother watched helplessly as Kayden struggled in the deep waters before disappearing below the surface. An immediate search was launched, but it was not until hours later that a family acquaintance was able to recover Kayden’s body from the depths.
Rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital, Kayden was, unfortunately, pronounced dead, leaving his family and the wider community in shock and grief. The waterside location, notorious for its depth, has been linked to previous drowning incidents, adding to the tragedy’s weight. Today, a family and a community mourn the loss of a young boy whose brave attempt to help another ended in heartbreak.
