Guyana: Azruddin Responds to Norton’s Extradition Allegations

Azruddin Mohamed, leader of the We Invest in Nationhood (WIN) party, has responded to claims made by Aubrey Norton, leader of the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR), regarding his political motivations and potential extradition to the U.S. In a press statement issued on June 3, 2026, Mohamed rejected Norton’s allegations that he entered politics to evade extradition, labeling them as false and politically motivated.

Mohamed emphasized that his decision to engage in public life stemmed from a desire to serve the citizens of Guyana, rather than to escape legal issues. He pointed to the timeline of his philanthropic activities, asserting that his involvement in community service began well before he launched his political movement. He stated that the encouragement from the working-class citizens during his philanthropic efforts inspired him to seek higher office.

Addressing Norton’s legal arguments, Mohamed stated that holding a political office does not provide immunity from extradition. He described Norton’s claims as legally unfounded and asserted that any individual could face extradition if legal requirements are met. Mohamed expressed his commitment to building a political movement rather than seeking refuge from legal challenges.

Furthermore, he accused Norton of attempting to maintain media relevance by attacking other opposition figures instead of addressing the issues within his own party. Mohamed highlighted the internal divisions and disillusionment facing the PNCR, contrasting it with the growth and grassroots support of the WIN party.

In conclusion, Mohamed reassured his supporters that his focus remains on representing their economic interests and expanding the WIN movement ahead of the upcoming elections. He claimed that his party has achieved more for the Guyanese people in one year than Norton has throughout his entire tenure as Opposition Leader.
